Ron – rowing Nowhere

Hi Everyone,
I’ve been getting used to our new rowing machine slowly, with 30 minute workouts.  Did an hour for the first time today.  Rowed 20k down a nonexistent river!  I don’t think 20k/hour is going to make anybody’s Olympic team, but not too bad for an old guy.
Best good wishes,
Ron

Ron – Our new rowing machine

Right above the foot pads are the handles to pull. When pulled a band connects to 3 paddles in the blue water tank and pulls them in a circle.  The seat of course goes slides back and forth.  The water tank contains 17L of water, plus a little chlorine to keep the water from gunking [...]

Ron – Still here!

Hi All,
Been busy with stuff, among other things our new rowing machine. It’s an H2O, meaning it has a tank with 17L of water and the paddles push against that.  So it’s like rowing on the water.  A great workout. I’ve been working up to a longer run, by biking for 30 minutes and then [...]

Ron – Still here

Hi Everyone!
Haven’t had much to say lately, mainly because routines have stayed the same.  I am now alternating days, one hour on the indoor bike and next day an hour on the treadmill.  This often happens in summer, where the heat and humidity discourage outdoor biking.
As fall gets here I will go back to harder [...]

Ron – Still Biking

Hi Everyone,
Way too hot and humid here in Kansas, USA for biking outdoors. So I did an hour this morning on my bike trainer.  I keep it on the big chain ring all the time, and then work up.  About 15 minutes in back gear 5 (pretty light) and another 15 minutes in 6 and [...]

Ron – skiing in July

Hi Everyone!
Today I had the urge to use my old NordicTrak ski machine after a long time away from it.  So, did 30 minutes of trudging through imaginary snow.  This machine still gives a super aerobic workout.  Then I jumped on the indoor bike trainer and turned 30 minutes at the biggest gear. An interesting [...]

Ron – Cross training

Hi Everyone!
I’ve been spending the week doing 30 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes on the indoor bike.  Treadmill is about a 5% incline at 3.6 mph, and I do the bike in something near the biggest gear.  One day the start with the bike, the next with the treadmill.
Seems to be working well.  [...]

Ron – 2 Different Workouts

This morning I did 60 good minutes on my indoor bike trainer, including 30 minutes at the top gear, which is a bit like pedaling through glue.
Calorie burn:  about 400 to 450
Following that I spent two hours watching the Tour de France time trail, with the riders going in a super top gear almost 40 [...]

Ron – Report from July 3

Hi Everyone,
This morning was a one hour treadmill walk.  I did it at 3.5 mph (5.63 km) with no elevation.  Sara was along side on the recumbent stationary bike.  Again, our “secret” is to make exercise habitual (about the same time every day) and to add companionship.
To help, we are now watching an online series [...]

Hi from Ron

Hi Everyone,
Good to read those weekly summaries.  Record keeping is one of my passions too.  I know it is not always easy.
I just returned from about 12 miles of vigorous cycling.  Not exactly the Alps or the Pyrennes here in Kansas, but there are some steep hills and I had pretty good leg strength today.  [...]
